  • CO 40 stitches using a cable cast-on
  • Arrange so there are 20 stitches on each needle
  • Knit a 1X rib (K1P1) for 2 1/2 inches
  • Main pattern: K4P1 to desired length (I like them about 7 1/2” from the cuff)
  • Slip Stitch Heel: Use 20 stitches on one needle. Other needle and 20 stitches “rest.”
Row 1: (S1 K1) repeat to end of row, turn
Row 2: S1 P to end of row, turn
Repeat these 2 rows until heel is 2 1/2”
  • Shape Short Row Heel: Round/French Heel
S1, K11, SSK, K1, turn
S1, P5, P2tog, P1, turn
S1, K6, SSK, K1, turn
S1, P7, P2tog, P1, turn
S1, K8, SSK, K1, turn
Continue in this manner until all stitches have been used. Then S1, K across.
  • Instep: With right side facing, pick up and knit 11 stitches.
Pattern across the stitches that have been “resting:” (K4P1)
Pick up and knit 11 stitches
  • Decrease Instep:
    Round 1(on each needle): K1, S1, K1, PSSO, K to last three stitches, K2tog, K1
    Round 2: K all stitches
Repeat above rounds until there are 40 stitches total, 20 on each needle
  • Knit until sock is 2” before the tip of big toe. For a size 8 shoe, this will be about 6” from picked up stitches. You can adjust to fit by knitting fewer or more rounds.
  • Toe Decreases:
    Round 1(on each needle): K1, S1, K1, PSSO, K to last three stitches, K2tog, K1
    Round 2: K all stitches
Repeat above rounds until there are 12 stitches total, 6 on each needle.
  • Kitchener closed and weave in all ends
